Excuse me, Can I request General Family Headcanons 1. "Character is about to bring their new baby home when they start to worry about being ready" with Doppo?

hypnomicimagines:

Kannonzaka Doppo

Doppo had re-read the ‘Idiot’s Guide to Having a Baby’ at least ten times.

Actually, he might’ve blacked out from stress during some of those so the total count might be closer to twenty times. He was beginning to get papercuts from turning the pages so quickly, his eyes feeling like they might burn out of his skull at some point as he came home from work just to bury himself in more voluntary work. He had already been wary about having a child of his own but the thought of it filled him with warmth and hope he didn’t think he’d ever felt before. Having a baby was just in the cards, just what the universe wanted for him, and he would be prepared to carefully care for the gift the world gave him.

He had baby proofed the entire apartment much to Hifumi’s amusement who had agreed to help him but took a far more lackadaisical approach to it all. Doppo was stressed about every cabinet with dangerous substances, every open electric socket, anything that your baby would potentially use to spell their doom. He knew it wouldn’t come immediately, the baby would spend quite some time comfortably settled in your arms having the two of you bring everything to it, but what about when they discovered they had legs? What about when they figure out how to use those legs? Doppo was sweating just thinking about it, how the hell was he supposed to deal with it in reality?! Where was the chapter on that?!

He was preemptively losing sleep from all his worrying, the sound of a page accidentally tearing rousing you from your sleep. You cast a grumpy look in his direction but sighed as you turned on your side to face him, reaching out to push the book out of his hands.

“You know some stuff we’ll just have to learn hands on, right?”

“…I don’t want to think about that.”

“I don’t think our baby is gonna get so much as a papercut with you watching over them.” You smiled up at him sleepily, “I wouldn’t have chosen to have a baby with you if I thought you weren’t cut out for the job. That’s what we have each other for, right? To figure it out together? I’m as lost as you are, you know?”

There’s something comforting about the fact that you don’t have it as together as you look and, the more that he thinks about it, the more he realizes that you really are right there alongside him. You had read through countless articles and books yourself, listened to podcasts about the subject, doing all you could to assure that your baby would grow up happy and healthy. But there came a point where you had to trust in your natural parental instincts, where you had to carefully play it by ear and figure out a situation with your own brain. He didn’t think his was remarkable, he’s pretty sure all the late night shifts were ironing out the wrinkles in his brain to the point it was smooth as a stone that’s been on the beach for a thousand years, but he was almost positive yours was far more reliable.

Things would be okay.

But maybe just one more chapter before he went to bed wouldn’t hurt.
